CHIQUITOS & MR MULLIGANS

At the weekend, my boyfriend Solly came to visit me in Bournemouth and as always we spent the whole weekend eating lots of yummy food. We haven’t been out for a meal since Rome, so it was so nice spending time with him after a stressful January. Saturday night we went to Chiquitos. To start I had halloumi skewers and Sols had jalapeno poppers. As a main I had a beef chilli burrito and Sols had a BBQ fajita. All of it was so nice, we have been to Chiquitos before and they don’t just sell amazing Mexican food, but lush cocktails as well. It is hard to find a perfect expresso martini and they serve one!!

turtle bay, Italian & a blizzard

I wore a new dress that I bought from isawitfirst.com. This website is my favourite clothing brand at the moment. Everything they sell that I have bought so far is great quality and affordable.

After an amazing dinner we played indoor mini golf at Mr Mulligans. I have never been before but everybody raves about it. The layout is extremely artistic and eye catching but although it is a lot of fun, the game is extremely slow on a Saturday due it being so busy and having to wait for different groups at each hole. I would definitely go again but maybe only play one game. It is something cute and different to do on a date night.

Happy Monday everybody! I hope you all had a good weekend. I have a lot planned this week after an extremely quite week last week, I am excited to get back to my busy old self. It is when I am my happiest.

Please follow my new Instagram account – https://www.instagram.com/emilymaythorne/ –  I am sharing lots of travel, photography and foodie pics which will hopefully grow when I become a lot more busy.

a sunday brunch

Conto Lounge

Yesterday morning, Sols woke me up bright and early on a Sunday to go and get a nice breakfast, which if you know me well enough… ended up being brunch. Instead of getting a traditional full english, I treated myself to an Avocado Brunch – this included ciabatta bread, avocado, tomato, chilli and bacon (if you want.)

After this we went straight into Bournemouth town to do a bit of shopping and spend time in the Christmas market. To end the perfect Sunday, we had biscuits, tea and watch Sherlock homes. What a lovely weekend! – Now time to be extremely productive before I break up for Christmas on the 14th.

belated birthday, beach boscombe, burger

Urban Reef

Denim Jacket – ASOS & White Jumper – Primark

Yesterday I took Katie out for a belated birthday lunch because she turned 19 in August and I wasn’t able to see her on her actual birthday. I sent her a card that arrived to her in the Summer holidays saying that I would take her out for a meal as her birthday present. Tuesday was the only day we both had free to spend together so I took her to Urban Reef in Boscombe. I have never been this far down the beach before, we spend most of our time in Bournemouth. This was a cute restaurant right on the sea front where I treated her to a fatty burger. The scenery was so beautiful, we sat outside with the sun shining on us all afternoon.

MISS SUNSHINE

The last bit of Summer sun

I want to do more things like this, not just going for lunch/diner but adventuring out of Bournemouth. I have Christchurch, South Banks and Boscombe right next to me which have some lovely picturesque places to visit, so this is going to be my goal for this year. From this weekend on I have something planned every weekend!! – Very exciting.

Barolo Restaurant and Slug & Lettuce

This weekend my boyfriend Solly came to visit me in Bournemouth and see my new house. He arrived pretty late on the Saturday because I woke up early afternoon as I worked late the night before. As soon as he got here we just chilled, drank tea and watch rubbish TV.

In the evening we went to a lovely Italian restaurant on Winton high street, which is only a 5 minute walk from my house. We weren’t able to get a table there until 9:30PM so we went to the Conto Lounge from a drink first. I bought a expresso martini which was gross!! They only added the coffee and vodka, not any syrup or sugar! I was very disappointed, but then I got my pina colada and was happy again. The Italian restaurant was called Barolo and it was so nice. It was extremely lively and packed with people all evening. I had calamari to begin with and then a chorizo, mushroom, tomato pasta as a main, it was lush!! For desert we shared a vanilla cheesecake, my favourite.

An evening in Leisture Square | M&M World & Jamie Olivers Diner

Lago Martianez | Puerto De La Cruz

By the time our meal had finished it was around 11:30PM so we just headed home.

On the Sunday we woke up and had a chilled morning. I hadn’t been in to Bournemouth town in the day time since I have been back for second year, so it was nice to spend the afternoon shopping with Solly and sat having an ice cream by the beach. For lunch we went to Slug & Lettuce which I LOVE. I think the place is so funky and serves great food. I had an avocado, halloumi and tomato sandwich with sweet potato fries.

After spending the afternoon in town, we headed back to mine and watch ‘The Other Guys’ before Sol headed home at 7:00PM.

Happy weekend everybody!! Have the best week.

a sour dough breakfast

A sour dough breakfast

At the moment I am loving sour dough bread. Cutting down on gluten is doing wonders for my body, especially while I am trying to work out 5 days a week. I am going to Malaga in less that 2 weeks with all my friends and the thought of getting into a bikini surrounded by my tiny friends terrifies me so the only way to make myself feel more confident is to act it.

“Confidence isn’t ‘will they like me,’ confidence is ‘I will be fine if they don’t.’

If I was going to recommend any diet it is a gluten free one and we are lucky enough to live in a day and age where there is a replacement for anything. Chickpea pasta, gluten free bread… so much more!! I am so excited to go back to University and cook my own meals. I have already made a huge pinterest folder full of healthy, gluten free, vegan, vegetarian meals. I am eager to experiment.

This is a really nice and easy breakfast, it is full of good fats, protein and very little gluten. It is also extremely tasty. I LOVE SALMON, I could snack on salmon all day but I need to make the most of it while I am home because I won’t be able to afford it back in Bournemouth.

The ingredients for this breakfast just include; sour dough bread, avocado, pouched eggs and salmon. So tasty!!

Sundayzzz

“This is your Sunday reminder that you can handle anything that gets thrown at you this week”

I drove back to Bournemouth on this sunny Sunday to go straight over to my friends accommodation and make a roast. What a great way to end a weekend and to prepare for a week of stress before our exam on Friday. Nothing beats a home cooked roasts, especially by my friend Tia the domestic goddess.

BLT Salad Bowl

“Skip the diet and just eat healthy”

This is a scrumptious recipe which is simple  and tasty. It is a healthy version of a BLT sandwich that includes bacon, lettuce and tomatoes but will a cheesier, sweeter taste.

THE INGREDIENTS

  • 2 rashes ofBacon
  • Lettuce (I just used enough to fill the bowl)
  • Handful of Cherry tomatoes
  • 1/2 an avocado
  • 2 tsp of feta cheese
  • 1/4 of a cucumber
  • Handful of coriander

Top tip: Try and cook the bacon until it is nice and crispy. While the bacon is cooking, chop up all the ingredients and throw it into a bowl, followed by the bacon on top.

I added balsamic glaze on top and a table spoon of balsamic vinegar to finish it off. I also chopped 1/4 of a lemon and placed it on the side which I squeezed on top as I begun to eat, to add a bitter taste into the mix and spice it up a bit.

How simple and delicious, happy eating!
